Kutans celebrate 50th anniversary at family dinner

Richard (Dick) and Shelley Kutan of Austintown celebrated their golden anniversary during a family dinner Jan. 3 at Ken Stewart’s Grille in Akron.

Hosts of the 50th anniversary celebration were the couple’s children, Robin and Troy Wright, and Rich and Shawn Kutan.

The family also includes five grandchildren: Alannah Kutan, Danielle Kutan, Caila Wright, Andrew Wright and Jacob Wright.

The Kutans are members of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Austintown.

Mr. Kutan and the former Shelley Fogle were married Jan. 3, 1961, in Mercer County, Pa. They honeymooned in Cleveland.

Mrs. Kutan retired after working as a cook in the cafeteria of Austintown Fitch High School.

Mr. Kutan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, when he began his long career in radio. He worked as a disc jockey known as Johnny Kay in the 1960s and 1970s for WHOT radio in Youngstown. He retired in 2007 as a DJ for WSOM in Salem.
