Officials to examine city’s water pressure

Staff report

STRUTHERS

The city will look into why there are water-pressure problems on the north side.

Ruth Charles, who lives on Woodbine Avenue, told city council at its Wednesday meeting that some of her neighbors have complained of low water pressure in the morning, notably between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.

“If there were a fire, people would lose their homes,” she said, adding that she is concerned about a pump at a pumping station there being turned off at 11 p.m.

“Be concerned about citizens on the north side,” she said. “We pay for water service like everyone else in Struthers.”

Council President Henry Franceschelli said that as of two weeks ago, Aqua Ohio was told not to shut off the pump.

The pump always should be on now, he said.

Fire Chief Harold Milligan said there shouldn’t be pressure problems in the area.

“If there’s a problem in the area, it has to be a valve,” he said.

Franceschelli said the problem might be a mainline valve.

He also said someone from Aqua Ohio would be in the area today to check water pressure at the fire hydrants.
