More than 40,000 votes had been tallied as of Monday in the national race for an “I Love Lucy” wedding commemorating the 60th anniversary of the show.
Poland residents Tricia Kren and Troy Litwiler are among five couples in the running for the prize package, which includes a ceremony and reception in Lucille Ball’s hometown of Jamestown, N.Y.
“We’re nervous, still hopeful, though, and we’re being positive,” Kren said.
Kren has been a fan of the show since she was a child and said she’s still voting on the site daily and telling friends and family to do the same.
“We’re still spreading the word. We’ve been handing out flyers at grocery stores. Wherever there’s a bulletin board,” she said.
Winners will be announced Feb. 14, and voting takes place online until that time by clicking here.
“I can’t tell you who’s in the lead. That’s top secret,” said Rebecca Rosen, director of MediaOneBridal.com, a wedding directory in Jamestown sponsoring the contest.
The ceremony will take place in the Lucille Ball- Desi Arnaz Center Tropicana Room followed by cocktails and a reception at the Desi-Lucy Playhouse and the Lucille Ball Museum, which includes the set from the show.
“They have been very diligent about marketing themselves,” Rosen said of Kren and Litwiler, who have regularly updated their Facebook friends about the contest and passed out 1,000 business cards with voting information.
Rosen said the entire town is excited for the ceremony, which will take place this summer.
“We love Lucy. We’ve always loved Lucy. Lucy never forgot her hometown of Jamestown, N.Y. We never forgot her either,” Rosen said.
