Mill Creek MetroParks has added another new face to its board of park commissioners.
Atty. Louis J. Schiavoni, 54, of Boardman, was appointed to fill the remaining two years of former Commissioner Dan De Salvo’s three-year term, Probate Judge Mark Belinky announced Tuesday.
De Salvo resigned after serving only one year on the board because of business and personal commitments.
Schiavoni grew up on the South Side of Youngstown and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1974.
He said growing up with the park in his backyard helped him harbor a love for Mill Creek Park.
“The park has always been one of the loves of my life,” he said. “We had a little ravine in my backyard that was like paradise.”
Schiavoni said he’s excited to have the opportunity to make a difference in the parks system.
“I want to try to make the park more people-friendly,” he said. “Some of the people in the outskirts don’t use it as much as they should.”
Schiavoni graduated from Ohio State University and Thomas Cooley School of Law and previously worked as a claims examiner for the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and was a lecturer for the National Business Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
For the past 25 years, Schiavoni has been the managing partner of Schiavoni, Schiavoni, Bush and Muldowney Co., LPA, in Youngstown.
He’s licensed to practice law in Ohio and in the United States District Court, according to the news release.
In December, Judge Belinky appointed Valencia Marrow of Youngstown to fill the board’s vacancy left by Virginia Dailey, who chose not to seek reappointment after 13 years. Dr. Robert Durick of Struthers was reappointed to a three-year term.
Youngstown City Prosecutor Jay Macejko and John Ragan, of Canfield, also serve on the board.
