Fallon to host Roots’ ‘Jam Session’

NEW YORK

Hip-hop band The Roots have given Jimmy Fallon a boost as the house band on his late-night TV show. He’s returning the favor. Fallon will host the group’s seventh annual “Roots Jam Session” on Feb. 12 in Hollywood.

The musical event, which features live performances, is on the eve of the 53rd annual Grammy Awards. The group is up for six awards, including best rap album for “How I Got Over.”

‘Baby It’s You!’ makes its way to Broadway

NEW YORK

The story of a one-time New Jersey housewife who discovered the ’60s pop group The Shirelles and became a powerhouse record producer is coming to Broadway.

“Baby It’s You!” starring Tony winner Beth Leavel will begin performances at the Broadhurst Theatre on 44th Street on March 26. It will open April 27.

Leavel will play Florence Greenberg, who created the independent Scepter Records and also discovered the Isley Brothers, the Kingsmen and Dionne Warwick.

The musical has a book by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, who co-wrote Broadway’s “Million Dollar Quartet.”
