New Pa. House GOP leader Turzai pitches his agenda

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The leader of the new Republican majority in the state House of Representatives says members of his caucus understand that if they don’t not deliver on their promises, voters can put the Democrats back in charge.

Representative Mike Turzai spoke and answered questions today at a Pennsylvania Press Club luncheon in Harrisburg.

The Allegheny County Republican says privatizing liquor and wine sales, trimming the Public Welfare Department budget and tightening requirements for unemployment and workers’ compensation benefits are among the changes he hopes to achieve.

Turzai also says he expects the Republican-controlled Legislature to approve a state budget before the June 30 deadline, and that the budget won’t increase taxes.
