Closing Mass at Youngstown's Immaculate Conception Church is Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN — A closing Mass is planned at 10 a.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception Church, 811 Oak St.

Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church merged on Jan. 9 under the Diocese of Youngstown Parish Reconfiguration Plan. The new parish, Immaculate Conception-Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, is at 400 Lincoln Park Drive.

Bishop George V. Murry will be celebrant and homilist. The Rev. Kevin Peters, pastor, will concelebrate, along with five priests who previously served Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart churches. After Mass, the congregation will go from the church to the school building for a reception.

The first Mass of the newly merged parish will be celebrated by Bishop Murry at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 6.
