POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Girard and Liberty:

HUBBARD

Jan. 13

Assault: Three males reported having been assaulted in a fight at a North Main Street business.

Jan. 14

Theft by deception: A man who bought a vehicle part at a Hermitage, Pa., auto-parts store reportedly returned it to Auto Zone, 420 N. Main St., claiming it didn’t work properly, but actually returned a similar, defective part.

Arrest: A traffic stop near West Park Avenue led to the arrest of 29-year-old Erik S. Demetruk, 136 Hazel St., Girard, who was wanted on a warrant from Niles. He also was charged with driving under suspension.

Jan. 16

Criminal mischief: Eggs were thrown at a truck in the 100 block of Hager Street.

Jan. 17

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at a residence in the 100 block of Bentley Avenue.

Jan. 18

Theft: A woman stole several candy bars from Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St.

GIRARD

Jan. 12

Burglary: To a home in the 10 block of West Kline Street, from which a set of golf clubs and tools were missing.

Criminal mischief: A woman returned to her East Liberty Street residence and noticed someone had placed a glue-like substance in her door locks.

Jan. 13

Menacing: A Church Hill Road man reported two people threatened to harm and kill him as part of a dispute.

Jan. 14

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Church Hill Road woman said her grandson refused to return her car, which had been in an accident.

Identity fraud: An East Kline Street man discovered an unauthorized $187 charge to his debit card.

Jan. 16

Theft: About $400 worth of stereo equipment was removed from a car parked in the 100 block of Church Hill Road.

Assault: A man at a business in the 300 block of South Market Street told police another man punched the side of his head, causing a bruise.

Jan. 18

Arrest: Police picked up 42-year-old Andrew P. Peyatt, 15 Holly Drive, Girard, near Ward and Broadway avenues. He was wanted on a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments.

LIBERTY

Jan. 14

Auto theft: A 2004 Ford Crown Victoria was stolen in the 10 block of Holly Drive.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a home in the 30 block of Scott Lane and took clothing.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 17, faced charges of theft, possession of criminal tools and obstructing official business after a pocket knife and two Sony PlayStation3 game controllers were stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. The teen also gave a phony name and several false dates of birth, police said.

Damage: A vehicle drove through and damaged three yards in the 5000 block of Logan Arms Drive.

Theft: A James Lane woman discovered $55 missing from her purse.

Arrest: Police arrested Maurice L. Rose, 24, of 2820 Belmar Drive, during a traffic stop on Hadley Avenue. He was accused of failing to appear in court.

Theft/drugs: Authorities charged 24-year-old Brent E. Coleman, 2927 Niles-Carver Road, Niles, with theft and possession of drug-abuse instruments after a bottle of soda was stolen from a BP gas station, 2703 Belmont Ave. Coleman also was wanted on a felony charge of possession of heroin.

Jan. 15

Attempted fraud: A St. Paul, Minn., man found out someone had tried to use his credit-card information to make a $300 purchase at Walmart. The transaction was denied, however.

Arrest: Officers responded to a fight in the 3900 block of Belmont Avenue, where they took a 17-year-old Youngstown girl into custody on a detaining warrant from Trumbull County. Original charges were carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana.

Aggravated menacing: A Tuttle Lane boy alleged an 11-year-old boy pointed a gun and threatened to kill him during an argument. The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun, police said.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in several drug-related charges against 19-year-old Clifford J. Adams, 87 Bassett Lane, Youngstown, who, police said, had suspected cocaine, 2.5 grams of suspected marijuana and a straw with suspected cocaine residue.

Jan. 16

Harassment: A South State Street woman said a 26-year-old Girard man has threatened to harm her and other people.

Drugs: Police conducting a welfare check in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive issued a summons to a 33-year-old Youngstown man after saying he had a small bag of suspected marijuana.

Jan. 17

Identity theft: A Monticello Boulevard woman learned her debit card had been used to make a $192.57 purchase at a bookstore without permission.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 4100 block of Logan Gate Road broke into a vehicle and damaged its dashboard, evidently in an effort to steal a car stereo.

Jan. 18

Theft: Police charged David Plazio, 53, of 249 Curry Place, Youngstown, with stealing two cans of beer from a Shell Xpress gas station, 3990 Belmont Ave.

Theft: A man took a $500 cell phone from Radio Shack in the Liberty Plaza.

Burglary: Took place in the 300 block of Colonial Drive through a rear window. Money and firearms were missing.

Criminal mischief: Eggs were thrown at a vehicle in the 1200 block of Willowood Drive.
