Poland varsity wrestlers place at Leonard Truck tourney

Neighbors | Submitted.Poland High School wrestler Jason Velasquez won his match against a Girard wrestler during the Jackson Milton Invite Jan. 15..Velasquez went 2-2 and received the "Crossface of the Week" award.

The Poland varsity wrestling team placed three wrestlers at the Jackson-Milton Invitational on Jan. 15.

Max Prizant took fourth place in the 103-pound bracket, AJ Shields captured third at 119 and Tad Duran was tournament champion at 112.

Duran defeated Girard’s Nick Cardiero 5-3 in an overtime match to win the title. He leads Poland in victories with 12.

Jason Velasquez and Edwin Figueroa lost in their bids to wrestle for third place. Velasquez went 2-2 and Figueroa was 3-2. Mike Audi, Joel Miller and Jordan Ziegler all posted wins.

Joe Williams, Bob Bricker, Justin Ladesic and Mitch Lidle also competed.
