The Cleveland Browns are expected to name former NFL head coach Dick Jauron their new defensive coordinator.
The 60-year-old Jauron is close to finalizing a contract to join Pat Shurmur’s staff.
Jauron spent the past two seasons coaching Philadelphia’s secondary. The well-respected Jauron previously was a head coach in Buffalo and Chicago, posting a 60-82 record.
Shurmur, hired last week as Cleveland’s fifth coach since 1999, is also looking for an offensive coordinator after Brian Daboll was fired and signed with Miami. Rob Ryan, Cleveland’s defensive coordinator the past two years under Eric Mangini, is now with Dallas.
The Browns also interviewed former Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt to run their defense, but he is close to joining Buffalo.
Meanwhile, a team spokesman said special teams coordinator Brad Seely has left the Browns. Seely spent two years with Cleveland and developed some of the league’s best kick return and coverage units.
