Easter Seals plans wine tasting event

Easter Seals is sponsoring “Flavors of the Vine,” a wine-tasting event, from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 29 at Vintage Estate Wine & Beer, 7317 South Ave.

Phil Reda, Vintage Estate owner, will discuss various types of wine and help patrons make selections.

Shrine Club inducts officers for 2011

Jay Jones was installed as president of Youngstown Shrine Club during a recent meeting. Inducted as his associate officers were Hugh Davenport, first vice president, and Tom Allsopp, second vice president.

Willard Hughes, secretary, and Richard Brintzenhofe, treasurer, were re-elected to the offices they have filled for many years.

The Shrine Club is a social and philanthropic organization and is affiliated with Al Koran Shrine of Broadview Heights.

Through the efforts of club members and contributors, 22 Shrine hospitals provide services to improve the lives of children, such as pediatric specialty care, innovative research and teaching programs for medical professionals.

Chinese New Year celebration planned

The Chinese Association of the Greater Youngstown Area (CAGYA) is inviting the public to attend a Chinese New Year party from 4 to 9 p.m. Feb. 5 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and dinner will begin at 5. The cost for the dinner is $26 for adults and $12 for children 6 to 10. Reservations are required by Jan. 30.

JWL announces new officers for year

Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League announces officers for the new year: Patty Reese, president; Brenda Duffet, president-elect; Linda Crish, first vice president and membership chairwoman; Denise Statler, second vice president; Andrea Stamp, treasurer; Sperry Rongone, assistant treasurer; Monica Baker, recording secretary, and Brenda Duffet, corresponding secretary. Rongone is a new member installed at a December social.

The next meeting will be Feb. 7 at the English Pub, 1305 Boardman-Poland Road, Poland. A Valentine’s Day party is planned. Those attending are asked to wear something red to celebrate Women’s Heart Month.

The Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League is open to all women over 18 residing in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement.

Tickets available for benefit auction

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Tickets are being sold in advance for the 23rd annual Crisis Shelter Auction to take place Feb. 26 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 110 E. Lincoln Ave. None will be sold at the door. Tickets are $35 each and include a dinner by Medure’s Catering.

Among the items up for bids during the live auction are two AirTran Airline tickets to any AirTran U.S. destination, four one-day Disney Hopper passes, and a weekend that includes five guest rooms at Chapel Valley Estate Bed and Breakfast in Ellwood City complete with a gourmet dinner for 10 and breakfast.
