The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering a safety training package that includes Adult CPR and standard first-aid training. The class is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Red Cross office at 661 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren. The cost is $55.

Instructor training

BOARDMAN

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering Instructor Training on five consecutive Tuesday evenings starting Tuesday and ending Feb. 22 at its Boardman office, 8381 Market St.

The class is from 5:30 to 9:30 each night, and all five sessions are required for certification in CPR for infants, children and adults; AED, first aid, and blood-borne pathogens.

The cost is $205.

Benefit for children

AUSTINTOWN

Local AFLAC agents will have a “Rock The Duck” benefit Friday at Chipper’s Sports Bar, 5 N. Edgehill Ave., Austintown, to help children diagnosed with cancer.

The event, from 7 p.m. to midnight, includes live bands, karaoke, a DJ, and Wii competitions. All proceeds will be donated to the AFLAC Cancer Center. The public is encouraged to attend.

Energy assistance

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) is scheduling appointments for the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) via its Interactive Voice Response system.

People seeking HEAP benefits must make an appointment by calling 866-223-1125. A limited number of walk-ins whose service have been disconnected or who have less than a 25 percent supply of bulk fuel will be accepted at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday at the MYCAP office at 101 Federal Plaza East.

For eligible residents, a one-time payment of up to $175 is available per heating season, which runs Nov. 1, 2010, through March 31, 2011.

Patient consultation

Sharon Regional Health System has an agreement with the Cleveland Clinic’s Telestroke Network that will provide immediate, around-the-clock access to patient consultation services from the Cleveland Clinic’s team of neurological specialists via a mobile, two-way video conference system located in Sharon Regional’s Emergency Care Center.

The Network, which is a part of the Cleveland Clinic’s Cerebrovascular Center, a division of the Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute, enables specialists at the Cleveland Clinic to discuss treatment strategies with the Sharon Regional medical team.

Sharon Regional Health System was recently recognized by Highmark QualityBLUE Best Practices for having low infection rates related to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) infections.
