Snowplow driver hurt in shooting
Snowplow driver hurt in shooting
YOUNGSTOWN
City police are trying to determine who fired the shot that struck a city snowplow and injured the driver.
A 62-year-old employee of the street department was sitting in a plow truck in the 100 block of Marion Avenue just after 2 p.m. Saturday when he heard something shatter the passenger-side window. Police determined that the window was shattered by gunfire. The driver suffered a cut just above his right eye.
Police checked the area around the truck including rear yards of houses along the street but did not find any suspects or footprints in the snow. Reports say the shot may have come from a house along that 100 block, but police have not been able to contact anyone at those houses.
Waterline repaired in center of Poland
POLAND
A fracture in a waterline led to a water shut-off for homes and businesses in the center of the village Tuesday.
“It was like a geyser,” said Russell Beatty, village street commissioner.
The water-main break on South Main Street near the Poland Library was repaired Tuesday evening, he said.
The library closed at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and will have regular hours today as long as the repairs hold, said Janet Loew, public-relations director for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.
