A fourth-grade spelling bee began at 9 a.m. Jan. 7 in the auditorium of Roosevelt Elementary School in Hubbard, where Maureen Bross, school speech pathologist, pronounced the words. Participants were Alexis Adkins, Tanashia Pierce, Adria Powell, Jasmine Phillips, Skylar Sakonyi, Emily Baker, Jaden Kassan, Michael Curran, Michael VanSuch, Alex Sinopoli, Benton Pasku, Aylaina Marcus, Kenna Tingler, Dylan Rhodes, Skyler Kasperowski, Kelsey Tingler, Justin Auth, Ryan Battaglia, Drake Beeson, Athena Burzynski, Madison McGowan, Alexis Ward, Alexandra Moore, Kyleigh Finamore, Megan Spain, Lukas Mosora and William McCarthy. Judges were Linda Silvidi, retired teacher and Hubbard Board of Education member; Nancy Bolchalk, former Roosevelt librarian; and Nancy Grapevine, assistant librarian at Hubbard Public Library.
