Volunteers are needed to transport veterans to appointments at the Butler VA Hospital in a van provided by Disabled American Veterans, said Shirley Noga, director, Lawrence County Veterans Affairs. The van leaves from the Lawrence County Government Center, 420 Court St. Anyone interested in volunteering should call Noga at 724-658-5176.

MLK Day program at East High School

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rev. Cecil Monroe will present a Martin Luther King Jr. Day program to inspire and encourage Youngstown School District students and parents at 1 p.m. Monday in the auditorium at East High School, 474 Bennington Ave.

Park reservations

BOARDMAN

Boardman Park is taking reservations for its indoor meeting rooms, open-air pavilions and St. James Meeting House for the rest of available dates in 2011 and for 2012 on a first-come, first-served basis. The park accepts reservations one year in advance, so on Jan. 3, the park started taking reservations for 2012.

Call the park office at 330-726-8105, or visit the office at 375 Boardman-Poland Road, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reservations made through the office must be paid within 10 days from the date the reservation is made with check, cash or money order. Reservations also may be made online at www.boardmanpark.com using a credit card.

Free computer classes at library

YOUNGSTOWN

Free, two-hour basic computer and Internet-skills classes for beginners will be offered this month at the main and Newport branches of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Initial sessions will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. and noon Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. Jan. 26 at the main library, 305 Wick Ave.

Initial sessions also will be offered at 2:30 and 5 p.m. Thursday, 2:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and 10:30 a.m. Jan. 29 at Newport Library, 3730 Market St.

The second session will be offered at noon Jan. 26 at main library. The second session also will be given at 5 p.m. Jan. 27 and 1 p.m. Jan. 29 at Newport Library.

Under the two-year, federally funded Every Citizen Online grant, the library system will recover 70 percent of the $47,000 cost of offering the classes. Call 330-744-8636 to register.
