“THE 68TH ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS” (8 p.m., NBC): OK, so they’re not the Oscars (or even the Emmys), but this awards show has proved to be much more fun. Why? Because booze flows freely and the stars tend to be in a let-’er-rip mood. That all leads to more entertaining acceptance speeches and off-the-cuff hilarity. Trying to make sense of it all will be witty host Ricky Gervais, who is always at his best when he takes a needle to Hollywood’s most bloated egos.
“Desperate Housewives” (9 p.m., ABC): Larry Hagman drops by Wisteria Lane for a guest visit. He plays the abrasive fianc of Lynette’s mom (Polly Bergen), and Lynette is determined to talk her out of marrying him.
“Big Love” (9 p.m., HBO): The fifth and final season of “Big Love” opens with big trouble for Bill (Bill Paxton), who outed his family after his state senate victory and now has to deal with the substantial fallout.
