NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Lawrence County commissioners have approved allocations the county will make to various community organizations.

The amounts are 20 percent less than the 2010 allocations for all of the groups except the Lawrence County Conservation District and the Lawrence County Cooperative Extension, which were cut only 10 percent so as to not affect matching funds, Commissioner Steve Craig said. They will receive $64,800 and $75,816, respectively.

Commissioners had earlier said they would impose the cuts because of a tight budget this year.

The other groups and their 2011 allocations include: AG Land Preservation, $5,760; Airport Authority, $2,880; Beaver Run Racetrack (defensive- driving training), $576; Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce, $2,880; Ellwood City Historical Society, $576; Ellwood City Arts/Crafts Festival, $4,032; Ellwood City Community Enrichment - $1,152; Enon Valley Historical Society, $288; Gussie Walker Community Center, $576; Hoyt Institute, $3,693; Intermediate Unit IV, $576; Lawrence County Animal Relief Fund, $288; Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, $17,280.

Other allocations are: Lawrence County Farm Show, $2,880; Lawrence County Firefighters Association, $5,760; Lawrence County Historical Society, $4,608; Lawrence County Humane Society, $2,246; Lawrence County Community Action Partnership Senior Citizens, $3,456; Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation, $54,720; Lifelong Learning Choices, $576; National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Lawrence County Homeless, $288; North Country Trail Association, $8,640; New Castle Musicians Union, $864; New Castle Playhouse, $2,578; Police Chiefs Association, $5,760; Special Olympics, $864; Tourist Promotion Agency, $3,456; Villa Maria (Community Programs), $1,728; Westminister College, $576.

Commissioners said that though the amounts are approved, they will not be expended unless the organizations submit formal requests for the money.
