Neighbors | Sarah Foor .The residents of Boardman Shepherd of the Valley visited Boardman Park for Senior Fun Day, where they made a bead and pin craft. Mary Bowell (left) shows off the pin on her sweatshirt with her friend Lucille Danallen (right) showing hers on her jacket.
For the tricky tiny beads on the bead and pin craft, resident Virginia Clark (right) got some help from Shepherd of the Valley employee Heather Sedlacek (left).

Boardman Shepherd of the Valley has many forms of entertainment for its residents — singers, speakers, games and movies are provided every week in the facility. However, the residents agree that there is nothing like some fresh air every once in a while — even if it is cold and wintry Ohio air.
On Dec. 27, the residents of Boardman’s Shepherd branch got their fresh air during Senior Fun Day at Boardman Township Park’s Lariccia Community Center.
Director of senior independence Susan Gans understands the residents’ need to visit the community.
“We all get stir-crazy after weeks of routine,” Gans sympathized. “Our senior fun days are one day a month, and are about offering socialization and forming close ties with our community organizations.”
The senior fun days are planned with the help of Boardman Park’s recreation director Karen McCallum.
“I’m proud to say we service over 200 seniors a month from different facilities. We provide exercise, crafts, lunch, and bingo to the visiting residents.”
“I can’t lie to you though, the main draw is the lunch. Our brownies are delicious,” she admitted.
