Phantoms Squirt team falls to Butler Valley

The Phantoms Squirt team traveled to Butler Valley Jan. 8 and fell 5-2 to the undefeated Butler Valley Dawgs.
The Dawgs were undefeated at 8-0-1 and had only given up nine goals this season. The Phantoms managed to score two goals against them and entered the third period tied at 2-all.
But Butler Valley was able to figure out the Phantoms’ defense in the final period and tacked on three goals for the 5-2 win.
Devin Whitaker (Boardman) scored both Phantoms goals. After a scoreless first period, he tied the contest at 1-all in the second period. His second knotted the game at 2-all in the second period.
Squirt goalie Nick Beck (Boardman) stopped all eight shots by Butler Valley in the first period. Macy Banner (Canton) and Tyler Berry (Canfield) kept more shots from getting through.
All told, Butler Valley had 21 shots on goal and the Phantoms registered 10.
