Canfield girls win first NEAC title
Neighbors | Submitted.The Canfield High School swim team participated at the Northeast Aquatic Conference Championship Jan. 8 in Wooster. The girls' team finished first at the event and the boys' team placed second.
NEAC Championship Girls Coach of the Year Andrea Linnelli led the Canfield High School girls swim team to its first win of the Northeast Aquatic Conference Championship Jan. 8 at Wooster.
The Canfield girls scored 350.5 points, beating GlenOak (330), Boardman (322), Wooster (310.5), Kent Roosevelt (294), Massillon Perry (179), Massillon (170) and Warren’s G. Harding (105).
Top place finishers were Taylor Rodenbaugh, Olivia Williamson, Gia Velasquez and Hilary Allen, fifth in 200-yard medley; Velasquez, second in the 200-yard individual medley; Allen, fifth in the 200-yard and 500-yard free; Alexx Montalto, fourth in the 100-yard fly; Mallory Allen, sixth in the 100-yard free; Mallory Allen, Briana O’Malley, Leslie Davis and Williamson, sixth in the 200-yard relay; Velasquez, first and Williamson, fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke; Rodenbaugh, sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and the team of Mallory Allen, Leslie Davis, Velaquez and Hillary Allen, third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Divers Ally Chiu, Adrianna Oddo and Jamie Blank finished first, second and fifth, respectively.
On the boys team, Gavin Trebilcock broke his own 100-yard breaststroke meet record by finishing first with a time of 1:00.27.
The Canfield boys team finished second with 375 points. Boardman (382) won the team title. Third through seventh were Wooster (333), Warren G. Harding (260), GlenOak (257), Massillon Perry (217) and Massillon (105).
Top finishers for Canfield were Trebilcock, Ryan O’Malley, Drew Wellham and Mark Dalvin, first in the 200-yard medley relay; Nick Montalto second and Daniel Bogen third in the 200-yard Free; Trebilcock first, 200-yard individual medley; Dalvin fifth, 50-yard free; Wellham fourth, 100-yard fly; O’Malley first, 100-yard free and Dalvin third; Montalto third, and Bogen sixth, 500-yard free; Dalvin, Montalto, O’Malley and Trebilcock second, 200-yard free relay; Bogen, Drew Bennett, Jake Smith and Montalto, fourth, 400-yard free relay; and O’Malley, fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
