A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:
HUBBARD
Jan. 5
Identity theft: An East Liberty Street woman accused her former boyfriend of using her name and Social Security number without consent to rent a home.
Recovered property: A woman found a checkbook she thought had been stolen at a Youngstown-Hubbard Road business.
Theft: A juvenile, no information given, was detained after being accused of trying to steal batteries from Devine’s Shop ‘n’ Save, 529 N. Main St.
Jan. 6
Menacing: A township woman reported a man harassed and threatened her despite a protection-from-abuse order against him.
Jan. 7
Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 300 block of Erie Street was found with its steering column damaged.
Jan. 9
Assault: Police received a call from Forum Health Northside Medical Center, Youngstown, regarding a man being treated for facial injuries he suffered during an assault at a Hubbard restaurant.
Recovered property: Youngstown police found a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville after a Rebecca Avenue woman had reported it stolen.
LIBERTY
Jan. 6
Criminal damaging: A Fifth Avenue woman discovered someone had poured oil into her vehicle’s gas tank.
Theft by deception: The owner of Valley Grocery Wholesale Inc., 1282 Trumbull Ave., told police a worker kept money the business should have received from clients instead of depositing the funds into the company’s account. The loss came to $2,670, though no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
Menacing: Two Colonial Drive residents reported a man has been making threatening calls over a two-month period.
Theft: A James Lane man reported a mattress and a computer monitor stolen.
Theft: An Austintown woman reported the theft of a $224 money order she had bought at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.
Jan. 7
Theft/assault: A McDonald boy, 14, faced those charges after a $30 Sony PlayStation memory card had been stolen from Walmart. The teen also fought with an employee, police said.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into apartments in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive via a window and removed copper piping, which caused flooding in some of the units.
Jan. 8
Assault: Charles B. Cozad, 24, of 7 Tuttle Lane, Liberty, was charged in the assault of a James Lane man after the two had fought with each other during a dispute about two air-conditioning units.
Jan. 9
Theft: A Youngstown woman discovered her wallet missing when she returned home from a Belmont Avenue store.
Jan. 10
Possible theft: A Madison Road woman reported a missing $2,650 ring she had bought for her daughter.
Fraud: A Tomilu Drive woman told authorities someone claiming to be her grandson called and demanded she send $2,995 to a London address to get him out of a difficult situation. The woman learned it was a scam and lost no money.
Aggravated menacing: A worker for a Belmont Avenue pizzeria said a man came to his place of employment and threatened to harm the accuser.
Theft: A student at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, reported the theft of his $275 MP3 player.
Damage: A Tibbetts-Wick Road woman saw that a motorist had struck and damaged her mailbox.
Robbery: Police charged 22-year-old Lindsey C. Confer, 4446 Berkshire Drive SE, Warren, with robbery when she was accused of struggling with a Walmart official who tried to detain her after more than $900 worth of merchandise had been stolen.
GIRARD
Jan. 9
Harassment: A man in the 400 block of Illinois Avenue said a Brookfield woman sent such text messages in an effort to blackmail him.
Jan. 10
Assault/criminal damaging: A woman told police another female pulled the accuser’s hair and punched her head, then kicked her vehicle’s driver’s-side, in the 1100 block of Shannon Road.
Burglary: To a home in the 10 block of West Kline Street, likely through a sliding-glass door. Stolen were a chain saw and two sets of golf clubs, for an estimated $1,050 loss.
