Staff report

The township board of trustees will conduct a special meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the township administration building, 2600 Elmwood Drive, to review the funding situation in the road department, the status of the state local- government fund and appointment of the police chaplain.
At a reorganizational meeting this week, trustees elected Fred Hanley chairman and Joe Gleydura vice chairman for 2011. All supervisors and department heads, including zoning members, were reappointed for 2011.
After final approval from the township insurance carrier, the trustees, on the recommendation of Chief of Police Todd Coonce, established the position of police department chaplain. The volunteer position will be filled in the near future; the chaplain will provide for internal counseling and support services to the department.
Trustees and Sue Goterba, fiscal officer, reviewed funding for the road department. Less state funding and a decline in gas tax receipts has reduced the department’s budget by 40 percent. Trustees are discussing the placement of a road department operation levy on the May ballot. It would be for a five-year renewal term.
James Miller, a 28-year veteran of the police department, turned in his resignation. He is retiring.
