AP source: Obama to visit GE plant in NY next week

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) — A federal official tells The Associated Press that President Barack Obama will visit General Electric Co.’s energy division in upstate New York on Jan. 21.

The visit is expected to include a tour of GE’s battery plant in Schenectady. It will be the Democrat’s third visit to upstate New York as president.

The federal official spoke on the condition of anonymity today because the official announcement hadn’t yet been made.

Obama had planned the visit for Tuesday. But the Arizona shooting tragedy disrupted plans and the president spent part of the week in Tucson.

No further details of the visit were available.
