YOUNGSTOWN

A 24-year-old man escaped police custody after being arrested for burglary around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A law enforcement officer in an unmarked vehicle noticed a 73-inch television tied to the roof of a blue Buick, which had been reported stolen, on Edwards Street on the city’s South Side, according to reports.

He alerted other police officers, and the vehicle was spotted at a West Marion Avenue home without the television attached. Police said a chase ensued, and the Buick made its way to Rosedale Avenue.

Reports noted that at the intersection of Rosedale and Warren Avenues, three men fled the car.

Police caught one of the men, Corey Cochran of Youngstown, at the intersection, and charged him with burglary, according to an arrest report.

An officer said Cochran was in the back of a detective’s car when he jumped out, ran from police and stole a car parked behind a Williamson Avenue home.

As of late Wednesday night, police had not caught Cochran.

Meanwhile, back at the Marion residence, where the Buick had been parked before suspects fled, officers found the television and other merchandise believed to stolen, police said.
