Northwestern routs Iowa in Big Ten

IOWA CITY, Iowa

Drew Crawford scored 19 points, Michael Thompson 17 and John Shurna 16 to lead Northwestern past Iowa 90-71 on Wednesday night.

The win was the first for Northwestern (11-4, 2-3 Big Ten) in Iowa City since Jan. 10, 2004.

Bryce Cartwright scored 25 points to lead the Hawkeyes (7-9, 0-4). Matt Gatens scored 20 for Iowa.

AKRON

Nick Kellogg scored a season-high 23 points, benefiting from some of D.J. Cooper’s season-high 15 assists, as Ohio defeated Akron 79-70.

Kellogg made 6 of 9 from 3-point range, and Cooper had 13 points and fell two rebounds short of a triple-double with eight.

Steve McNees led Akron with 15 points.

Central Michigan 65, Toledo 52

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.

Trey Zeigler scored 30 points, including making five 3-pointers, to lead Central Michigan.

Zeigler shot 12 for 21 from the field, taking 11 tries from long distance.

Jalin Thomas had a double-double for Central Michigan, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Reese Holliday led the Rockets (3-13, 0-2) with 14 points.

Ball State 72, Western Michigan 63

MUNCIE, Ind.

Jesse Berry scored 15 points to lead Ball State. Berry, a freshman, was 4 for 5 from 3-point range for the Cardinals (10-4, 2-0 Mid-American). Jauwan Scaife scored 14 points and Jarrod Jones added 12 for Ball State.
