Lifts broken again at Pittsburgh-area ski slopes

PLUM, Pa. (AP) — Ski lifts at Boyce Park near Pittsburgh are broken again, having stranded about 50 skiers just days after others were stranded in mid-air and had to be lowered to the ground by ropes.

The ski slopes at the Allegheny County-owned park about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh reopened Wednesday and operated normally until about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The lifts had been closed since Sunday after the ski lift became stuck on Saturday.

State regulators had inspected the repaired lifts and said they were safe. It’s not clear when — or if — the lifts will open again.

The park also features snow tubing and a beginner’s ski area. Those areas are served by “magic carpet” lifts that pull riders up the hill along the ground and remain open.

Nobody was hurt either time the lifts broke down.
