Grateful for support
During the Jan. 10 meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown, Francesca Kostek of the American Cancer Society, at right, briefed the group on the Relay for Life , which has been ongoing nationwide for 27 years and has been taking place for 12 years in Austintown and the surrounding area. She noted that 200 survivors took part in the Austintown event last year, and thanked the Rotary, Walgreen’s and the Fitch Interact Club for serving dinner to those who participated. More than $100,000 was raised at the event and it will be used to provide services for cancer patients such as Hope Lodge in Cleveland and Cincinnati; Patient Navigator, which provides social services; and Reach for Recovery, which provides transportation for cancer patients. Following her talk Kostek was joined by Susan Leetch, Rotary president, who will donate a book to Woodside Elementary School library in honor of the speaker.
