Crews still on scene of massive Philly blaze

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Firefighters remain on the scene of a massive apartment complex fire that forced about a hundred people from their homes in West Philadelphia.

The inferno burned out of control for nearly five hours, coming under control around 7:30 p.m. today. No serious injuries were reported.

The Red Cross reported about 25 people were spending the night at a temporary shelter set up at a nearby school following the massive blaze at the 90-unit Windermere Court apartment complex.

Fire officials say crews responded to the blaze around 2:30 p.m. and the fire quickly worsened.

A passer-by had to be treated for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.

Two nearby schools closed today because of the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
