Canfield, Boardman teams win swim titles

The Canfield High girls swimming and diving team won the Northeast Aquatic Conference championship meet for the first time in school history on Saturday, and the Boardman boys team made it a sweep for Valley schools.
Canfield, led by individual champions Ally Chiu and Gia Velasquez, won the girls meet with 350.5 points. Canton GlenOak was second with 330 points and Boardman was third with 322.
Chiu won the diving competition with 320.85 points, while Velasquez claimed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 9.83 seconds.
Boardman’s Ashley Aldan won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.54, and was on two winning relays, the 200 medley (1:57.11) and 200 free (1:44.52). Aldan was joined on the medley relay by Gaby DeAscentics, Jessica Gonda and Emily Bodamer, while the free relay also included Bodamer, Jordyn Markovitch and Colleen Manning.
Boardman’s boys won with 382 points, with Canfield coming in second with 375. Warren Harding was fourth with 260 points.
Canfield’s Gavin Trebilcock broke his own meet record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.27. He also won the 200 IM in 1:58.62, and led off the Cardinals’ winning 200 medley relay (1:41.55). He was joined by Ryan O’Malley, Drew Wellham amd Mark Dalvin.
O’Malley also won the 100 free in 49.40.
Boardman’s Steven Moss, Ryan Bailey and Mike Henson won individual events.
Moss finished the 50 free in 23.04, while Bailey claimed the 100 fly in 53.51, and Henson the 100 backstroke in 55.09.
Boardman also won two relays. Bailey, Steve Brooks, Henson and Moss won the 200 free relay in 1:30.21, and Mike Reardon, Tommy Slagle, Henson and Moss finished the 400 free relay in first place in a time of 3:26.22.
