2 youths attain Eagle honors
Two members of Boy Scout Troop 46 that meets at Boardman United Methodist Church have earned their Eagle Scout awards, Boy Scouting’s highest honor.
They are Zachariah Brewer and Joseph Belgrad. Scoutmaster is Eric Grabman.
Brewer is the son of Scott and Kristine Brewer of Boardman and grandson of Elizabeth Brewer of Youngstown. He joined the troop in 2004 after receiving the Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting’s highest award, from Club Scout Pack 114 of St. Charles Church, Boardman.
He earned 31 merit badges, had positions as senior patrol leader, patrol leader, quartermaster and librarian, and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.
His Eagle Scout service project was the design and construction of a computer room of a biblical ship for the church’s Sunday School’s “Ship of Learning” classroom.
Brewer is a senior at Boardman High School, where he is a cellist in the symphony, chamber, pit and Project Mayhem orchestras, and a member of the cross-country team, National and Spanish National Honor societies, Spanish, Science, Key and Frisbee clubs, Quizbowl Team, a senior class representative to Student Council, and a National Merit Scholar semifinalist.
He is a member of the church’s youth-fellowship group and also a member of Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Belgrad is the son of Dr. Elizabeth Finley-Belgrad and David Belgrad and grandson of Nancy and John R. Finley, all of Boardman.
He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 27 at Boardman United Methodist Church and earned his Arrow of Light Award in 2005. He earned 26 merit badges and was elected to the Order of the Arrow.
His Eagle Scout service project was restoration and upgrade of the pond in the courtyard at the church.
He is a junior at Ursuline High School, where he is in the top 10 students in his class. He is a member of the marching, concert and stage bands, as well as track, cross-country and speech and debate teams and the theater department.
His grandfather, John R. Finley Jr., his uncle, John R. Finley III, and his brother, Benjamin A. Belgrad, also earned Eagle Scout awards.
