This Christmas, the students of St. Christine Catholic school planned every aspect of Christmas dinner. Surprisingly, though, the Christmas dinner wasn’t for themselves.
On Dec. 16, St. Christine’s students gathered for the culmination of a month of planning, fundraising and donating to supply Christmas dinners for families of their parish and beyond.
“Even after four years, the most interesting aspect of our project is what deserves to be on that holiday table,” said teacher Karen Joseph.
“Every class is prompted to think about what makes their Christmas meal special, so that they can give the same to needy families.”
When the meal is decided, each student is given a particular food to buy, or gives a monetary donation toward a gift card for perishable items.
The boxes then head to parish families in need, and others to the St. Vincent Depaul Society. Included is every detail of a holiday meal, including silverware, plates and napkins.
Fifth-grade student Hannah Abrigg said the project has taught her about giving during the holiday season.
“Christmas isn’t about take, take, take. I think it’s really important to give back any way you can.”
