AMS falls to Canfield
The eighth-grade blue boys basketball team lost to Canfield 36-26 Jan. 3.
Tommy James was the leading scorer with 10 points and Derrin hall had eight.
Deonte Brown Brown had four points and Michael Bianco added two.
Blue team defeats Cardinals
The seventh-grade blue boys basketball team defeated Canfield 31-27 Monday.
They also defeated Boardman Glenwood and Youngstown Northeast.
Their loss came to Massillion Jackson Dec. 16.
Leading the way for the blue team in scoring is Jared Kapturasky averaging 12 points per game, followed by Brian Beany with seven points per game and Scotty Duffy with four points per game.
The team consists of 11 players including, Dante Sanfilippo, Matt Rozic, Alex Kilpatrick, Jacob Dorbish, Nick Terry, Aaron Kostelic, Kyle Kent and Drake Sahli.
AMS Red beats Boardman
The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball Red team defeated Boardman Center 26-14 on Dec. 20.
The Falcons were led by Aaliyah Sadler with 15 points. Rebekah Pipe chipped in with five points and Andrea Fitzgerald added four points. Ashley Hawryluk finished up the scoring with two points in the victory.
The Falcons jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first half and led 13-4 at halftime. The lead was cut to 20-14 in the fourth quarter before Sadler scored the final six points in the last few minutes of the game to secure the victory.
Curbstone Coaches announce speaker lineup
The Curbstone Coaches will resume its Monday meetings in January, plus host its annual “All-league High School Football Banquet on a Sunday. The group meets at noon the Blue Wolf Catering Center on Lockwood Blvd. in Boardman.
On Jan. 10, the speaker will be Joe DeRosa, retired NBA referee and now a 2010/2011 college basketball referee.
Former YSU and NFL kicker Paul McFadden will be the speaker on Jan. 17 and Major League Baseball umpire Wally Bell will be featured Jan. 24. On Jan 30, the group will host its annual all-league high school banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the Georgetown. YSU head football coach Eric Wolford will be the featured speaker.
Fitch boys bowlers win holiday tourney
The Austintown boys bowling team beat Boardman 2-1 in the finals to win the team title at the Holiday High School Bowling Tournament at Camelot Lanes on Dec. 30.
Brian Skelton rolled a 654 series to finish fourth in the individual competition.
