Salem teen will perform at Carnegie Hall

Brenna Price, a junior at Salem High School, has been selected for the 2011 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall.
She will be a part of the Honors Orchestra playing the flute/piccolo. Participation in the Honors Orchestra, Honors Band and Honors Choir is limited to the highest-rated high school performers from across North America.
Brenna auditioned this fall for the Honors Performance Series and was accepted after a review by the Selection Board committee. Acceptance to the elite group is a result of the talent, dedication and achievements demonstrated in her application and audition recording.
Brenna will join other performers from the United States and Canada for a special performance at world-famous Carnegie Hall, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement.
Brenna studies flute with Heidi Kushious (Cleveland Orchestra) in Chagrin Falls, and is principal flute of her high school band, the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Stambaugh Youth Concert Band.
This year she has been selected for the OMEA All-State Band, the OMEA EC Regional Orchestra, OBDC University of Akron Honors Band, Bowling Green Honors Band, Ohio University Honors Band, Ohio State University Honors Band, Kent State Honors Band, Stark County Honors Flute Choir and recently performed in the NEOFA flute master class at the University of Akron.
Additionally, she has a 3.9 grade point average, is active in Spanish Club, Poetry Club and the Youngstown State University English Festival. During the summer, she plays with the Quaker City Band.
Finalists will come together for five days in February in New York City to have the opportunity to learn and work with other finalists and get a taste of New York City.
The 2011 conductors are Dr. Eph Ehly, Dr. Charles Peltz and Jeffrey Grogan.
The Feb. 19 performance is open to the public and specially invited representatives from collegiate music programs.
The Honors Performance Series was created to showcase accomplished individual high-school performers by allowing them to study under master conductors and perform in the celebrated venue, Carnegie Hall.
