Ryan loses seat on Appropriations

Staff report

WASHINGTON, D.C.

As expected, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, has lost his seat on the House Appropriations Committee.

Democratic losses in the November election and the decision of new Speaker of the House John Boehner of West Chester, R-8th, to reduce the number of members on congressional committees are reasons for the change, Ryan said.

“I’m very proud of my work as a member of the Appropriations Committee and proud to have awarded critical funding for very important investments that have revitalized our local economy, paved the way for groundbreaking research and fundamentally changed the image of our community as a great place to create wealth,” Ryan said in a statement.

“Although I am confident I will return to the Appropriations Committee in the not too distant future, in the meantime, I will continue to be very aggressive in building on our economic- development successes of the past few years.”

Ryan served on the committee for four years.

New committee assignments have not been determined at this time.
