More than 35 Friends of the Austintown Library members attended the group’s annual Christmas party Dec. 20 in the community room of the library. The holiday party was used as a means to generate new membership.

Library development director Deborah Liptak attended the celebration and congratulated the group on its fundraising and volunteering efforts throughout the year. She also encouraged them to reach out to the younger generations for new members.

“They are essential to our survival,” Liptak said.

The group was serenaded by the voice of Austintown native Dan Mook as he sang more than 10 holiday songs. This was his first time performing for the group.

“I feel very privileged to come out and share the holiday cheer,” Mook said. “I am honored they asked me to come.”
