Canfield wrestlers dominate tri-meet
The Canfield varsity wrestling team scored dominating victories over Akron Hoban and Akron Firestone in a tri-meet at Canfield High School on Dec. 22.
In the combined duals, Canfield won 27 of the 28 matches. The Cards defeated Firestone 75-0 and beat Hoban 74-4.
Winning both their matches for Canfield were Anthony Spencer (103 pounds), Korey Frost (112), Zach Kay (119), Jake Dunbar (125), Robby Reed (130), Alex Benedict (135), Richard Rapone (140), P.J. Hido (152), Eric Mirto (160), Steve Hamilton (171), Michael Flanagan (189), Curtis Burns (215) and Robert Gleichert (HW) 2-0. Lucas Daprile (145) was 1-1,
Canfield improved to 11-3 in dual meets, with two of those defeats coming on the first weekend of wrestling. The third loss was to St. Paris Graham, the top-rated team in the nation.
“Our team is really firing on all cylinders right now, and this is a lot of fun. We have the line-up in place, and we are solid top to bottom. Our seniors are providing great leadership,” said coach Dean Conley.
