2 YSU students place 1st in Ohio, 10th in US

Youngstown State University seniors Nate Miller and Steve Mesik placed first in the state of Ohio in the Cisco Networking Academy NetRiders 2010 Skills Competition for the United States and Canada.
Miller of East Palestine and Mesik of Austintown, who are majoring in computer-information systems at YSU, then placed 10th out of 45 competing teams from across both countries in the finals of the competition conducted last month.
Virginia Phillips, professor emeritus, is Miller’s and Mesik’s computer networking instructor.
Cisco Networking Academy NetRiders allows students to showcase their information technology/networking skills and to gain visibility among talent recruiters in the growing networking field.
In the competition, teams of two students take a series of online exams and simulation activities.
Mesik is a member of the Beta Gamma chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma and is executive vice president of YSU Student Government.
