Trustee to step down at the end of the month
PERRY
Mike Halleck has announced that he will stay on as a Perry Township trustee only until the end of January.
Halleck, a Republican who defeated Democrat Dan Bing in the November election for a spot as a Columbiana County Commissioner, had previously said he would stay on as trustee and serve as a commissioner.
Columbiana County Prosecutor Robert Herron, a Democrat, had researched the law and determined that Halleck could hold the commissioner’s post and also serve as a trustee.
Clifford Mix, the chairman of the trustees, said Tuesday that he and Trustee Don Rudibaugh offered the third trustee’s post to township Zoning Officer Don Kendrick to fill the vacancy. Kendrick has not made a decision.
Mix said Kendrick was “quite competent as a zoning officer.”
The pay for a trustee is about $11,000 a year compared with about $250 a month as the zoning officer.
Halleck did not return a call to comment.
Halleck could not remain as a member of the Columbiana County Port Authority board.
Tracy Drake, the chief executive officer for the port authority, said Thursday that under the authority’s rules, anyone who is elected to a public post must resign from the board by the end of the year, in this case 2010.
