Synergy of Arts set in Canfield tonight

CANFIELD
Songwriters, painters, seamstresses, dancers, filmmakers and a cake decorator will come together for the second annual Synergy of the Arts at Canfield High School auditorium at 7:30 tonight.
A $5 donation will be collected at the door to help the Canfield Players fund their spring performance of “Anything Goes.” Parking is free, and the event is open to the public.
Seventeen groups of students were given an assignment in September to interpret a message found inside a fortune cookie via their artistic medium.
“That message was basically about people looking for happiness when they really only need to look within themselves,” said Becky Heikkinen, the high school drama director.
The first group of students was given a week to interpret the message. The second group was not shown the fortune cookie message and instead had to view the first group’s final product and create their own response via a different medium — similar to the game of telephone.
Heikkinen said the performance will start at the end with a cake decorator’s interpretation and follow the trail back to the original fortune cookie message.
Last year, one participant crocheted a dress. Another group performed a skit.
“I was so overwhelmed and blown away with the results last year,” Heikkinen said adding that the show is a way for all students to display their talents.
“It let’s everyone do what they do best,” she said.
