Housing manager faces drug charges
YOUNGSTOWN
A property manager at Plaza View Apartments responsible for helping police eliminate drug activity in the complex is due in court to answer to a felony drug charge.
Christine Cordy, 45, of Crestwood Avenue, has been charged with felony possession of drugs, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, and a traffic violation. She appeared in Youngstown Municipal Court for arraignment this week, and a bond of $9,000 was imposed.
Cordy is due back in court Wednesday before Judge Robert Milich of Youngs-town Municipal Court.
Cordy is the property manager at the Plaza View Apartment complex on the city’s East Side. Part of Cordy’s duties is to coordinate with police in their efforts to keep drug trafficking out of the complex.
The Plaza View Apartments is a government- subsidized, 186-unit housing complex under the supervision of the Youngstown Area Development Corp. It is not known how long Cordy has been an employee at the complex.
James Glenn, a board member at the YADC, said the YADC is aware of the arrest and looking into the matter to determine what action will be taken.
“We are evaluating this now. I am in discussion with the police department, and I am going to meet with [Cordy] to determine the circumstances around the situation. We need to find out what we can do and should do to be fair to the community and the Plaza View Housing Development,” said Glenn.
Cordy, according to county court records, has one conviction for misdemeanor attempted possession of cocaine in 2009. She received a suspended six-month jail sentence and was placed on probation for one year.
According to county records, Cordy also has a petty-theft conviction from 2003. In that case, she was fined $250 and sentenced to 30 days in jail. All the jail time and fines were suspended, and Cordy was placed on probation for one year.
According to police reports, police observed Cordy drive a four-door Honda Civic to a house known for heavy traffic and drug activity on Worthington Avenue. The same officers pulled Cordy over after reportedly watching her leave the house then fail to signal before a turn.
Police ultimately found a broken crack pipe in the car and a small package of crack cocaine, which police say Cordy pulled from her bra.
