Man accused of hit-skip surrenders

North Jackson

The man accused of side-swiping three cars in the Meander Lodge Motel parking lot turned himself in to police.

Frank Fayed, 48, who lives at the motel at 9245 Mahoning Ave, was charged Wednesday with hit-skip and reckless operation of a vehicle after he drove his car into three vehicles in the motel parking lot Tuesday evening, said Ken Frost, Jackson Township police chief.

Frost said Jackson and Austintown township police searched for Fayed for about an hour Tuesday night but were unable to find him.

Fayed came to the police station Wednesday morning and admitted to his involvement in the incident, saying he was under the influence of alcohol, Frost said.

“He hid from the police in a nearby bush because he felt he’d been drinking too much,” he said. “He told police he came out once [officers] cleared the scene.”

Fayed is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown at 9 a.m. Jan. 19.
