Jury convicts owner of dog shot in cage

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man whose German shepherd survived being shot six times has been convicted on a gun charge.

Jurors today found Lawrence Mick guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Investigators have said the Toledo man and a friend took turns shooting at the dog named Sarge while he was in a cage last July. Mick testified during his trial that he never shot the gun.

Sarge survived gunshots to the head, neck and chest.

The dog is now at a no-kill animal sanctuary in Utah that also took pit bulls from NFL player Michael Vick’s dogfighting ring.

The Blade of Toledo reports Mick is to be sentenced later this month and faces another trial on charges including animal cruelty.
