WARREN
“Motorcycles on Main Street,” the National Packard Museum’s 11th annual antique motorcycle exhibition, will open Saturday in the museum’s newly expanded and renovated galleries, and will run through May 29.
More than 30 significant two-wheel machines seen rolling along America’s main street over the past century will be featured.
The Legacy Gallery will showcase the earliest machines in the exhibit, including a rare 1908 Massachusetts-built 4-horsepower Crouch with pedal start and leather-belt drive, and a 1923 Indian Chief with a sidecar.
The museum’s Great Hall Gallery will focus on the fast crowd, featuring a 1927 Indian Ace 4-cylinder, a 1976 Honda 750 and a unique 1937 flat-head Ford V8 powered shaft drive home-built motorcycle.
The exhibit will include several seldom-seen and unique machines, including a 1950 Imme, one of the strangest motorcycle designs ever to come out of Germany. The Imme’s single-sided swing-arm is also the exhaust pipe.
The bikes will be displayed alongside 25 Packard automobiles and memorabilia from the museum’s collection.
For the fourth year in a row, the museum will present a Saturday-morning lecture series in conjunction with the exhibit.
These educational seminars are free and open to the public.
This year’s lecture series includes:
“The Lincoln Highway”: 11 a.m. Feb. 19, by Bob Lichty, past president of the Lincoln Highway Association and former board member of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor.
“Motorcycle Radio,” 11 a.m. March 19, by Larry Ward and Roy Dyckman, hosts of 570 WKBN’s “Two Wheel Power Hour” show.
“Buying and Selling Motorcycles,” 11 a.m. April 16, by Mr. Motorcycle.
