Truck barrels through yard, onto Pa. Turnpike
MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike had to be closed near Pittsburgh for more than an hour after a driver barreled through a yard, crashed on to the highway then struck a concrete barrier.
Police in Monroeville say the driver is listed in serious condition following the crash Tuesday evening.
Investigators say the unidentified man lost control of his truck on a local road, passed through a yard then smashed into a barrier in the middle of the turnpike. The crash blocked the eastbound lanes of the highway for a little more than an hour.
Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole says more than 50 empty and unopened cans of alcohol were found in the truck. Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
