Kasich reverses no-media policy at swearing-in ceremony
COLUMBUS (AP) — A spokesman says Ohio’s incoming governor has reversed an earlier decision and now plans to open his official swearing-in to reporters and members of the public.
Republican Gov.-elect John Kasich changed direction after requests from supporters as well as a flurry of media criticism this week, according to spokesman Rob Nichols.
Nichols said the incoming governor was not concerned about security at his home as much as he just wanted a private ceremony. The swearing-in is scheduled for 12:01 a.m. Monday.
It will now be at the Statehouse, Nichols said. Media access to other inaugural events also is being reviewed.
