Inmate commits suicide in Summit County Jail

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Ohio say an inmate who apparently jumped from a second-floor ledge in a suicide attempt has died.

An autopsy is planned later today on the body of 51-year-old Michael O’Neill of Akron.

He apparently jumped Sunday over a Summit County jail ledge to a concrete floor one level down. He died late Tuesday.

The Akron Beacon Journal says the man told officials he was trying to kill himself.

He was locked up Friday on charges of criminal trespassing and being drunk and disorderly.
