Firestone Park light show closes as holidays end
COLUMBIANA
The Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau can take a rest.
On Sunday, the bureau ended the weekend car trips through Firestone Park that began Nov. 18 to view a holiday light display.
Ginny Perkins, the bureau’s secretary, said, “We’ll be brighter and better next year.”
The past weekend was the slowest for tickets.
The program was created to raise funds for the Toys for Tots program and for restoration of Fire-stone Park’s Funland.
She said there had been a great deal of community support for the program.
People paid $5 per car to drive through to see the light displays.
Perkins said that each night generally brought in 100 vehicles. On some nights, the count went higher.
There were some minor problems including children altering the pattern of the bulbs and a window’s being broken in the indoor park pavilion.
The chamber expects to have a better idea on how much money the program raised later this week.
