Friday is last day for WFMJ anchor

Friday will be the last day for 21 WFMJ-TV news co-anchor Cindy Matthews, according to Mona Alexander, news director for the station. Her contract expires that day and “she is looking at new opportunities,” said Alexander.
WFMJ is currently in the process of searching for Matthews’ replacement, said Alexander.
Matthews joined the station in January 2008, and co-anchored the 6 and 11 p.m. news with Bob Black. She previously worked at WXIX-TV and WCPO-TV, both in Cincinnati.
Ebert’s show names co-host

Chicago-based film critic Ignatiy Vishnevetsky is joining Roger Ebert’s upcoming movie review show. Vishnevetsky is replacing the previously announced Elvis Mitchell, the show announced Tuesday. No explanation was given for Mitchell’s departure.
The Russian-born Vishnevetsky, 24, writes for the film website Mubi and contributes to the Chicago Reader. He’ll appear alongside co-host Christy Lemire, 38, film critic for The Associated Press.

Jim Carrey and Gwyneth Paltrow will ring in the new year for “Saturday Night Live” with back-to-back hosting gigs. NBC said Tuesday that Carrey will preside over this week’s edition. His musical guest is The Black Keys.
Paltrow will take her third turn at hosting the show on Jan. 15. The star of the new film “Country Strong” will be joined by musical guest Cee Lo Green. “Saturday Night Live” airs Saturday at 11:30 p.m.
Marvel names editor-in-chief

Marvel Entertainment says that Axel Alonso, a longtime editor of several of its comic books, has been promoted to editor-in-chief. The announcement was made Tuesday by Marvel’s chief creative officer, Joe Quesada. He lauded Alonzo’s uncanny ability to shepherd titles from simple idea to printed product, adding that Alonso will oversee the company’s editorial creative direction and develop new story lines for its stable of heroes and villains that include Captain America, Thor and the Red Skull, among numerous others.
Alonso joined Marvel in 2000 as a senior editor and helped oversee critically lauded runs of Amazing Spider-Man and the X-Men, along with revisioning western character Rawhide.
