Disabled Ohio girl found with mom's body

NEWARK, Ohio (AP) — A school girl with developmental disabilities was found home alone with the body of her mother, who police say may have been dead for days.

Police in Newark in central Ohio say in a statement today they forced their way into the house Tuesday afternoon on reports the two had not been seen for some time.

School district superintendent Doug Ute tells The Advocate newspaper of Newark that a middle school principal had gone earlier to check on the 14-year-old girl because she hadn’t shown up for classes.

Police say there were no obvious signs of foul play in the death of 51-year-old Rebecca Anne Covington. The Licking County coroner’s office said an autopsy was scheduled for today.

The girl has been placed in a foster home.
