112th Congress convenes; Parties will share power
WASHINGTON (AP) — The 112th Congress convened with prayers and pomp today, as Republicans vowed to use their new House majority to battle President Barack Obama on health care, spending, taxes and other issues. GOP Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, poised to become the new speaker, said his party will tackle tough issues such as deficit-reduction. But agreements will be difficult in Washington, as Democrats still control the Senate, and Obama retains his veto powers.
